Water & Tailings Management

Managing process water and tailings safely and sustainably to maximize water recovery, protect the environment, and support responsible mining operations.

Processes within Water & Tailings Management

Tailings Disposal

Manages processed waste through engineered transport, placement, containment, monitoring, and closure practices. The selected approach considers geochemistry, water balance, geotechnical stability, environmental protection, land use, and long-term stewardship.

Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)

Engineered facilities contain tailings and process water through safe operation, monitoring, and closure. Design considers site conditions, water balance, embankment stability, seepage control, extreme events, closure, and long-term performance.

Water Treatment

Removes contaminants from mine and process water to support reuse, compliant discharge, or environmental protection. Treatment systems are tailored to flow, water chemistry, discharge standards, receiving conditions, and opportunities for recycling.

Water Recovery

Captures and returns water from process streams and tailings systems to reduce freshwater demand and discharge. Efficient recovery improves site water balance, lowers operating costs, and supports more resilient and sustainable plant performance.

Paste Backfill

Blends thickened tailings with binders and water to fill underground voids and support mine stability. The mixture can provide ground support, improve ore recovery, reduce surface tailings storage, and place process waste underground.
