Pyrolusite

Chemical Formula: MnO₂

Pyrolusite is a manganese oxide mineral with the ideal formula MnO2 and is one of the most important ores of manganese. It commonly forms in oxidized and sedimentary manganese deposits, including zones enriched by weathering and supergene processes. Manganese recovered from pyrolusite-bearing ores is used extensively in steelmaking, batteries, chemicals, and other industrial applications.

Deposit Types and Elements

These elements are often found is this element in the following Deposit Types:

Manganese (Mn)

Deposit Type: Marine Sedimentary / Supergene Manganese - Manganese deposits formed by marine sedimentary concentration and/or later supergene enrichment.

Pyrolusite is a major manganese oxide and the most common manganese ore mineral.
