Mining Significance
Gadolinium is recovered from mixed rare-earth minerals and concentrates rather than from dedicated gadolinium ores. It typically accompanies other middle and heavy rare earths and requires multi-stage solvent extraction or ion exchange for purification. Its specialized magnetic and neutron-absorption properties give it value despite comparatively modest production volumes.
