Vanadiferous Titanomagnetite (VTM)

Vanadiferous titanomagnetite (VTM) deposits are magmatic oxide deposits characterized by magnetite-rich mineralization containing economically significant vanadium, commonly accompanied by titanium-bearing phases such as ilmenite. Vanadium typically substitutes for iron within the magnetite crystal lattice rather than occurring as a separate abundant vanadium mineral. Processing commonly concentrates the magnetic fraction before downstream recovery of vanadium and, where economic, iron or titanium products.

Elements and Minerals

The following Elements and Minerals may be found in this Deposit Type.

Vanadium (V)

Mineral: Magnetite - Fe₃O₄ - Vanadium commonly substitutes for iron within magnetite; the ideal magnetite formula remains Fe3O4 even when the magnetite is vanadium-bearing.
